Hardwood
Deciduous, grow in warm/wet places, not always hard
Softwood
Evergreen, pine cones/needles, grow in cold dry places

Conversion
Turn logs into useful pieces of timber
Quarter sawn
More stable but wastes more wood, meaning it costs more
Slab sawn
Quick and no waste, however the slabs aren’t as stable
Seasoning
Is the controlled drying of timber,
Reasons are:
Increases strength
Increases stability
Less prone to rot and decay
