Wood Wastint Processes Flashcards
What are the three types of WOOD TURNING?
Turning between centres, turning on a faceplate, turning in a chuck
What can TURNING BETWEEN CENTRES be used to make?
Chair legs, table legs
What can TURNING ON A FACE PLATE be used to make?
Bowels, domes
What are the large chisel like tools used in WOOD TURNING called?
Gouges or scrapers
What are chucks used for in TURNING IN A CHUCK?
Used to accurately clamp a workpiece whilst it’s being turned
What are the two ways to use ROUTING?
CNC router or handheld portable electric plunge router
What is ROUTING used for?
Making slots and holes, making decorative mouldings, making wall plaques
Why is milling timbernot as widely used as CNC routing timber?
Because CNC routing had a larger range of movement
What is the general idea of LAMINATION?
Thin manufactured wood is glued together and set hard using clams or vacuum bagging
In LAMINATION, what is vacuum bagging?
When instead of using clamps to set the wood in place, a polystyrene sheet is put over wood and taped down. A vacuum pump will suck all of the air out of the bag so that the wood is set hard
What is an advantage of STEAM BENDING over LAMINATION?
Steam bending is less wasteful as laminated parts need to be cut down
