Wood Processing, Joining, Finishes Flashcards
What is the purpose of Wood Finishes
Prevent the wood from absorbing water
Protect against decay
Protect against insect attack
Enhance the appearance
How can wood degrade
Alternating wetness and dryness means that moisture can sit beneath the surface of the wood. This wet rot leads to a fungus which turns the wood crumbly
Insects such as woodworm attacks hardwoods and softwoods. The death-watch beetle attacks only hardwoods by laying eggs in the cracks of the wood
What should be done prior to applying
wood should be smoothened and cleaned
