Roe V Wade 1973-
Significant in representing the sexual and maternal freedoms of women which had previously been disregarded by the govt, making it a turning point in government acknowledgement of the reproductive rights of women.
5% reduction in birth rates b/c of legalised abortion, which resulted in a societal change in the perception of women as child-bearers and housewives; allowing women to be seen as seperate from domesticity, a prevalent ideology throughout the majority of the period.
Women’s reproductive safety was heightened by reducing the amount of illegal abortions, enabling it to be a viable TP.
OPPOSITION- religious (Bible Bet), conservative= limiting the amount of women who recieve abortions and exercise social mobility ALSO the perception of change regarding the societal role of women, as some pigeonholed themselves into the stereotype of the housewive, thus Roe V Wade can be seen as the least important turning point as the extension of social change for women as a result is questionable.
Period from 1960-1992-
