Q

What is the current advised regiment for OCP?

A

21 on, 4 off
Used to be 21 on 7 off, but this poses a greater risk of pregnancy, as the ovaries are likely to return to normal function and ovulation after 8-10 days. 4 off provides a greater window of protection in the event of a late restart.

Q

Why do many women opt for a pill instead of a copper coil insertion as a form of emergency contraception?

A

A coil insertion is an invasive procedure.
There are also ethical arguments as the coil does not stop conception/fertilisation, it just prevents implantation of the embryo in to the uterus.
