Q

After. grab
In between. And.

A

We’re not talking about America today, though you may see parallels. We’re talking about another country and another time. Before the internet and Instagram, before tick tock, and texting, before Harry Styles and Star wars.

21

A

No! No! I’m not a dirty Jew.

22
Q

No matter what the Nazis say.

A

I hate that I’m different! And I hate Papa! And I hate you!

How I regret those words. Soon after, Mama dies of Tuberculosis.

Now with ONLY a Jewish parent I’m more at risk.

To keep me safe Papa has to get me out of Germany.

Please Papa, don’t make me go.

23
Q

Kindertransport
Great adventure.

A

Kindertransport?

24
Q

Belgium and Holland.

A

I have to live with strangers?

25
Darling girl.
My British🇬🇧 foster parents are good people. But they are Very reserved and don't express emotions⛔ 🎭 So I am not allowed to grieve for Mama. or miss Papa, who is writing 🖋️ 2️⃣ me through Red Cross 🔠 letters.
26
Great Britain declares war on Germany.
Making it impossible for Papa to join me. Or CONTACT me. He has to go into hiding, so I don't know if he is alive or ...dead. But thanks to Kindertransport we 10K rescued children are alive. And many of us are the only members of our families who survive the Holocaust.
27
After good little Nazis (Get suitcase, get Miranda) Jewish families (Get up with ⭐ Star) The plan is to identify us.
And Isolate us. Because we are now forced to leave our homes and move into Ghettos across the occupied countries. The Ghettos vary in sizes, but most have: run-down housing,🏚️ terrible sanity conditions 🤢, no medical supplies 💉💊, and little food 🫗. Once the Nazis have us in one part of a city, it's easier for them to control us ....and starve us💀. (sit)
28
Eva Vesser Hungary.
Every week the police search us, and take what they can. One day an officer asks to borrow a suitcase💼 to carry what he has taken. He tells my mother to send ME to the station to retrieve it the next day. I go to the station for our suitcase💼, and the Officer 🗝️locks me in his Office and shuts the blinds. I'm frightened and fighting him off and he keeps saying:
29
It won't matter where you are going!
😮‍💨Someone knocks on his Office door. I escape and run back to my mother ... without the suitcase 💼 ...but knowing we are going someplace where nothing matters anymore.
30
cattle car (Put on savanee) Journey to Auschwitz Birkenau
My parents, older sisters: Agnes and Clara and Our little niece: Aniko and I arrive exhausted, starving, and terrified. We see a sign 🚧 above the entrance gates🧱 to the camp 🏕️:
31
They are going to work us very hard here
Why are they separating the men and women?
32
And the little children?
Mama! Papa! Aniko! Where are they taking them?
33
I don't know
Where Are they taking us?
34
I don't know
Why are they shaving off all our hair?
35
We don't know. Eva! Try and stay calm. What is that smoke?
And that smell?
36
That is your mother and father burning. Roll call!
Up every morning at 4:00
37
Breakfast
Black coffee like beverage
38
Standing naked each day. So they can select the weakest and sickest to die in the gas chambers
1,000 women killed each day to make room for all the new transports from Hungary. We are going to die here.
39
Concentration camp (Put on savanie) No no Eva. Keep marching!
Agnes! When I can no longer walk, I am lined up to be shot. I hear 👂🏾 the machine gun and one by one, the women in my row fall dead. Some instinct tells me... "Pretend you are dead. Don't move or BREATHE" . I am too frightened to open my eyes but I hear Agnes and the remaining women forced to march ahead. They are all shot... And are among the 375,000 prisoners who die on the death marches. (Get up) I eventually opened my eyes and walk into a nearby town to ask for food 🥑🥝. People feed me but no one will let me sleep in their home or barn. So I sleep in the forest for two nights. On the third day, I come to a beautiful setting... A sheep farm where they make wool. A wonderful woman runs it, Frau Stritzel. She gives me a room, my very own bed... Makes me healthy food. I am very sick, very weak. I am 18 but look like I'm 80. But I hold on. The Americans have landed in France. And with them comes hope.
40
Some Nazi party officials, high ranking, military officers and German businessmen are found guilty and sentenced to death or given prison sentences.
After the war ends, we survivors begin the long and painful search for our missing FAMILY and Friends through the International Red Cross ❌ and International Tracking 🐾 Services In most cases, we never know what happened to our loved ones. 😢 A year after the war ends, I get a letter. My sister, Clara is alive and looking for me.
41
WOMAN 1/CLARA VEZER Where’s Agnes?
WOMAN 3/EVA VEZER (shakes her head) But we survived.
42
We also have no money, no jobs, no homes to return to. And as younger survivors, we’ve lost years of schooling and have no education.
WOMAN 3/EVA VEZER We’re officially categorized as DPs... ALL ...displaced persons. And many of us go from the concentration camps to DP camps... where we begin the healing of our bodies and spirits.
43
America (Line up) WOMAN 1 Finally, with intense lobbying by the American Jewish community, many are eventually able to immigrate and build new lives in America.
WOMAN 3 We are Among the FORTUNATE FEW who survived thanks to the allied soldiers, who fought for us and the helpers, now known as The Righteous Among Nations, who risked their lives hiding us and feeding us 🌮🌮🥧.
44
WOMAN 2 And we went on to lead meaningful lives. We had careers...
ALL ...got married... WOMEN ...had children... ALL ...great grandchildren! {SIT}
45
(Get Doll) MAN 2/KURT WEINBACH (CONT’D) Each of you can make a difference.
WOMAN 3/EVIE SCHUERMAN I had to have many identities to survive. Know yourself. And stand up for yourself.
46
WOMAN 2/ELLEN LEWINSKY ARNDT The impossible can only be possible if you don’t give up or give up hope
And speak up. Share YOUR story We have all shared ours to young people through a Holocaust awareness organization. My daughter became the director there.. assuring the survivors will never be forgotten (Take off scarf) 🧣. ALL Remember us.
47
MAN 1 Now it’s your turn. Your stories... your choices.
WOMAN 3 Your survival. If you are a victim of hate and violence, will you be silent or seek allies and speak up for yourself?
48
WOMAN 1 Will you help?
ALL Never forget! Never again! Never is now!
