why is ethanol soluble but not hexanol

A

Hydrogen bonding between ethanol and water molecules make alcohols soluble. As the hydrocarbon chain gets longer, the importance of the -OH group relative to that of the alkyl group becomes less and hexanol is unable to mix with water
