Wk2 L2 Flashcards
What are the measures of central tendency / sameness?
The three ‘measures of central tendency’ are:
1) mean (average)
2) median
3) mode
What is arithmetic mean?
The arithmetic mean is equal to the sum of the values (data points) in the sample divided by the number of values in the sample
What is the median?
The median is the middle value in a dataset. To find the median:
Arrange the data in order of size
Find the value in the middle which divides the data in two halves
If there are an even number of data points, add the TWO values in the middle and divide by 2
What is the mode?
The mode is the most frequently occurring value
What is the range?
The range is the difference between the smallest and the largest
What is the deviation?
The deviation measure how far each value is from the mean x. Xi- x
What is the forumula for variance ? (denoted by S
S^2 = (Xi - X) / N-1
