What is NAS?
= where the fetus/neonate has been exposed to recreational, prescribed and/or elicit drugs inutero and postnatally and there is a sudden cessation of the drug exposure resulting in withdrawal behaviours.
How does NAS present?
- generally 24-72hrs
What are some symptoms of NAS?
- CNS related chnages
- Hypersensitivity
- Respiratory distress
- Gastrointestinal disctubance
- Autonomic nervous system dysfunction
- high pitched cry
- Hyperirritability
- Seziures
- Sleep deprivation
- Sleep fragmentation
- Sneezing
- Excessive suck
- Poor excessie feeding
- Yawning
- Tachypnoea
- Hypertension
- Tachycardia
- Sweating
- Diarrhoea
- Excessive weight loss
Vomiting - Hypertension
- Hypertonia
- Tremors
What doe the symptoms of NAS depend on?
- types of drug

What are some maternal, neonatal and fetal implications of smoking in pregnancy?
Maternal
Difficulty getting pregnant
Early placental sepreation-> APH, placenta abruption
placenta/vasa previa
