WK 5 - Therapeutic Actions of Acupoints Based on Physiology Flashcards

1
Q

identify the zang fu organ with these functions:

  • govern Qi & respiration
  • control the channels & blood vessels (LU 9 Influential of Vessels)
  • diffuse & descend Qi & body fluids
  • regulate water passages
  • control the opening/closing of pores, skin

Q

why might you select to use the LUNG channel in a treatment?

A
  • Lungs disperse, effuse, disperse Qi: use circular needle technique at LU 1, LU 7, LU 8 to release the exterior
  • Lungs deal with the Exterior: LU 7 is major point to get rid of cold, scatter cold, induce sweating, LU 2 expels damp (facial edema, achy joints)
  • Points on the LU channel are conducive to tonification: LU 9 with strengthen the LU pulse

Q

identify the zang fu organ with these functions:

  • controls passage (moves digested food from SI & conducts it down)
  • conducts the stools downward
  • transforms stools & reabsorbs fluids

Q

why might you select to use the LARGE INTESTINE channel in a treatment?

A
  • LI points have minimal affect on its organ. to treat bowel issues, combine LI & ST points together: LI 9 & ST 37 free up intestines, LI 10 & ST 36 stimulate production of Qi & Blood
  • LI in conjunction with LU treats the upper burner. LI mobilizes water to the skin, and can promote sweating.

Q

which channels are said to be full of Qi & Blood, and therefore may be okay to use more points on?

Q

why might you select to use the STOMACH channel in a treatment?

A
  • internal origin (emotions & diet)
  • long term pathogenic factors, unresolved & affecting the sensory orifices
  • to build ST fluids (e.g. ST 42)
  • to descend Qi, help with rottening & ripening of food, or treat rebellious/counterflow Qi
  • harmonize the middle burner

Q

why might you select to use the SPLEEN channel in a treatment?

A
  • strengthen SP to help Yang of the ST to “ripen & rot”, or for SP Qi Sinking (SP 8 + KD 2)*
  • strengthen SP & disinhibit damp (SP 6, SP 7). note: SP is one of the first channels we use to build back the body.
  • ascend SP Qi (SP 20)
