What is anatomy?
The study of form, gross anatomy. Includes structures seen with naked eye or with microscope.
What are the 7 main apparatus or systems?
Locomotor - skeletal, articulate and muscular systems
Digestive
Circulatory - cardiovascular and lymphatic
Respiratory
Uro-genital - urinary and genital systems
Nervous - central and peripheral
Integumental - skin, superficial epidermis and sensory organs
Anatomical directional terms include ?
Cranial - skull Rostrum - snout Dorsal - back Caudal - tail Ventral - belly Medial - middle Lateral - flank Proximal - near Distal - distant Palmer - forelimb Palm Plantar - hindlimb Palm Axial - central axis of limb, digit or body Abaxial - the axis Superficial - to the surface Deep - away from surface
What are the planes of the body and what are the divisions?
Median - divides body into equal left and right parts
Para-median - close to and parallel to median plane
Sagittal - any plane parallel to median plane
Dorsal - parallel to sprain
Transverse - transfers body element perpendicular to long axis of the part
What are limb and joint movements?
Abduction - away Adduction - towards Circumduction - round Rotation - arm rotation Protraction - in front Retraction - back Flexion - bend Extension - straighten Hyper extension - over beyond
