With Friends Like These... Flashcards
The house cocktails are minimalist, with one "X-factor", or specific ingredient to make each a bit different. They will change about every 6 weeks. Made with an emphasis on local, regional products. Everything (syrups, bitters, etc.) made in-house. Drinks engineered to be consumed quickly. Bitters will be changing seasonly, with one bitter always catered specifically to the menu at the time.
Strike Anywhere
“Riff on a Matchbox(makes cocktails very wrong by classic ccktl standards) manhattan. Refreshing, but definitely not subtle. Supposed to pick up on the baking spice.”
2 oz. Yahara Bay Bourbon, 1 oz. Demuth Vermouth, 1/8 oz. Cherry demerara, hard dash angostura. Served up. Garnish: Cherry.
Radio Flyer
“Accessible, easy drinking. Great for the whiskey/vodka tonic drinker. Classic sour (sugar, spirit, citrus).”
2 oz. Yahara Bay Bourbon, 3/4 lemon, 3/4 smoked brown sugar, 3 dash pumpkin bitters.
End Of The Century
“E.O.T.C. is the name of a Ramones album. Drink is also a riff on a 20th Century, without the fortified wine. Refreshing well balanced cocktail. Reminds me of a Coffee and Cigarettes.”
-2 oz. New Holland Rum, 3/4 lime, 3/4 house cacao, 1/8 simple syrup. 1 crushed gaslight coffee bean. Served up, in a coupe glass.
(New Holland Rum: 80 proof, good, simple clear white rum with a touch of earthiness)
Double Take
“Strong, bitter, dry drink. Would appeal to Negroni drinkers and Amaro drinkers. Letherbee’s Ozag Amaro is a take in Fernet Branca. We are the only establishment that is carrying it. Differs from Ferent Branca b/c it is a higher proof, has a more intense, deeper caramel flavor, char and lots of saffron.”
2 oz. Letherbee Gin, 3/4 oz. Punt E Mes, 1/2 oz Letherbee Ozag Amaro (letherbee’s fernet). Served up, in a coupe glass. Stirred drink. Lemon expressed and inserted. Lemon essential to this drink.
(Letherbee Gin: big, very floral, cuts through everything. Punt E Mes to stretch the drink out)
Good Morning Captain
“The most challenging, esoteric drink on the menu. ‘Like a cigar in a milkshake’. Very bitter but you don’t get that cloying, lingering bitterness afterward.”
2 oz. Gold Ed Hamilton, 3/4 molasses and tobacco, 1/2 demerara, whole egg. Served up, in a coupe glass.
(Gold Ed Hamilton: big, bold. Exact opposite of New Holland Rum.)
CHilling Effectz
“Accessible, refreshing vodka cocktail. Made with vodka from CH distillery in Chicago. Made with Letherbee Malort, which is higher in proof, made locally, and has more grapefruit and anise.”
2 oz. CHrissy Vodka, 3/4 lime, 3/4 simple syrup, hard dash Malort, 1 muddled fresh blackberry. Served in a collins glass with a lemon wheel.
