Russian:
Ved’ma: witch (to “know” the future, to divine)
Koldun: sorcerer (incantation, spell-saying)
English: Witch(“spell-caster,” “diviner”) sorcerer(“spell-caster”) warlock(“traitor”) wizard(“wise one”)
Old English:
wicca, wicce, wiccian (to bewitch, to cast a spell, in the context of religion and magical mode of thought)
wis, witan (wise)
Late Latin/French:
sorcier(one who devises and casts spells)
Appearances of witches:
dark-haired or red haired; green-eyed, black-eyed, wall-eyed, cross-eyed, blind, inflamed eyes unibrow young and sexy // old and ugly with six toes
Witches and sorcerers are “made” when:
a demon inhabits their body;
they enter into a pact with the devil;
they deny God;
they cohabit with a devil or demon;
a dying witch or sorcerer passes on “the words” or “The Power”;
they are breast-fed for more than two years as infants;
they are third generation illegitimate.
Distinguishing features of witches and sorcerers:
- They have two souls and two shadows;
- They must receive “the words” or “The Power”
- They can shapeshift;
- They can summon the dead;
- They can control storms;
- They can control animals;
- They can ruin a harvest, bring drought;
- They can do love charms and death charms;
- They can suck human blood;
- They can fly;
- They consort with the devil, demons, and each other;
- They foretell the future and do divination;
- They do all kinds of evil;
- They must pass on “the words” or “the power” to someone else before they can die;
- Dying witches and sorcerers can predict their own deaths;
- They have to be buried at the crossroads or in other locations away from the churchyard;
- The earth may refuse to receive their bodies;
- They may return as ghosts or vampires.
