Wireless Security Flashcards

1
Q

What is the problem with security of wireless networks in terms of the channel that wireless networks use?

A

The channel of communication with wireless security is broadcasting. Broadcasting is easy to eavesdrop and jam.

Q

What is the problem with security of wireless networks in terms of the resources of wireless networks?

A

Wireless networks are resourced with limited memory and power therefore it is harder to implement security systems

Q

How does WEP provide security? Generally and in terms of confidentiality and integrity?

A

Through encryption
CONF: stream cipher RC4
INT: CRC32

Q

Why is the IV vulnerable in the RC4 stream cipher in WEP?

A

IV is short (24 bits)
IV has problems with IV generation, not random and 50% chance resets after approx 5000 packets
Once IV is found, attacker can find RC4 seed and XOR to obtain plaintext
