ISP
Internet Service Provider: The company that provides internet services.
WAP
Wireless access point: a hardware device that allows devices to wirelessly connect to a wired network. It can be a standalone device, or part of the router.
Router
A hardware and software device that directs information to the devices on the network.
Modem
Modulator/demodulator - changes the form of the signal carrier, either encoding carrier waves into digital or decoding from digital to carrier waves.
SSID
Service set identifier - every wireless network has one. An informal name for a wireless network, so the user can tell which one they are connected to.
What are some types of wireless security?
MAC address whitelists
WPA/WPA2
Hiding SSIDS
Password protection of networks
How does WPA2 work?
It is built into network interface cards and provides strong encryption , generating a new 128 bit key for each transmission.
