Wind Energy Flashcards
Wind Energy
Making electricity from the wind
Renewable energy
Energy which can be used again and again.
Wind Turbine
The ‘windmill like’ machine that rotates in the wind.
Wind Farm
A collection of wind turbines.
Non-renewable Energy
Energy recourses that will run out.
Where are wind farms found?
In countrysides and along the coastal areas.
A wind farm in a town centre?
No, too sheltered and no wind, dangerous and noise pollution.
Would high land be could for wind turbines?
Yes, they are exposed to high winds and not dangerous.
Would a farm be good for wind turbines?
Yes, they are usually in countrysides and will probably be on a hill.
Would the coast be good for wind turbines?
Yes, would be much windier but they would cause visual pollution.
Would off shore be good for wind turbines?
Yes, because of the strong winds but there will be visual pollution.
Would protected areas like national parks be good for wind turbines?
No, because rare birds may get trapped in them, visual pollution, noise pollution and dangerous.
Is wind energy renewable?
Yes, there is wind everywhere and most of the time.
Is wind energy good for the environment?
They have no emissions so yes but they cause visual and noise pollution.
Are wind turbines expensive?
Yes, much more than fossil fuels.
