Wills and the administration of estates Flashcards

Q
Does a woman’s husband need to obtain a grant of representation to realise £3,500 held in a National Savings Direct Saver?
A
No. The Administration of Estates (Small Payments) Act 1965 allows personal representatives to obtain payment of sums due to an estate without the need for a grant of representation by simply producing a death certificate, provided the amount does not exceed £5,000. This includes monies such as National Savings and Premium Bonds. For example, a grant of representation is not required to realise £3,500 held in a National Savings Direct Saver.
