Q

What was the Harrying of the North?

A

Anglo-Saxon peasants betrayed the Barons, killed an Earl and 3000 Norman’s in the north of England. Anglo-Saxon rebels met up with Vikings in 1069 to form an alliance. William heard of this and sent soldiers to the north to kill the rebels. The Normans burnt the houses, crops and killed animals on the rebels. This sent a message to all Anglo Saxon across England to prevent further rebellion.
