Wildfire Flashcards
State six considerations of aircraft safety on the ground?
- Stay in pilots view at all times.
- Stay away from spinning main and tail rotor blades.
- Approach in pilots field of view in a crouched position.
- Do not run.
- Be aware of ground irregularities, uneven and sloping terrain.
- Ensure all hardhats and helmets are securely fastened or carried under the arm.
When are fire weather estimates given?
Issued twice a day during fire season.
- 0630 hours for the current day.
- 1645 hours for the following day.
What are the three levels of warnings?
- Alert
- Watch and Act
- Emergency Warning
What is the first step of the Dynamic Risk Assessment process?
Evaluate
What is my task, what is going on and what are the hazards?
What is the second step of the Dynamic Risk Assessment process?
Select
What do I plan to do and how do I plan to do it?
What is the third step of the Dynamic Risk Assessment process?
Assess
What are the risks of what I plan to do?
What is the fourth step of the Dynamic Risk Assessment process?
Decide
Is my plan safe? Do the benefits out weigh the consequences? Yes, go to step six (Proceed) or No, go to step five (Modify)
What is the fifth step of the Dynamic Risk Assessment process?
Modify
Can I make the task safer? Yes, return to step three (Assess) or No, Stop! return to step one (Evaluate)
What is the sixth step of the Dynamic Risk Assessment process?
Proceed
As I proceed, what is going on and what do I need to re-evaluate?
What factors affect weather?
- Temperature
- Wind Speed
- Wind Direction
- Relative Humidity
- Atmospheric Stability
What are the three factors that affect fire behaviour?
- Weather
- Fuel
- Topography
What are the factors that affect fuel?
- Type
- Size
- Quantity
- Arrangement
- Moisture Content
What are the effects of wind?
- Rate of spread
- Direction and predictability
- Spotting
- Preheating of fuels
State seven hazards when working with heavy machinery?
- Machine operators have a restricted field of vision
- Dust, smoke and poor light/darkness further impede visibility
- Never work in an area below where the machinery is operating as they can dislodge rocks, logs and tree branches
- Maintain at least 2 tree lengths separation while working
- Establish eye contact with operator before approaching
- Only approach when directed by the operator
- At night, carry a torch or remain in a well lit area
The direction the wind is coming from is the wind direction? True or false
True
