• set the null and alternative hypothesis
• ranking which is done on the difference between the sets of data (when ranking, signs are ignored)
• if the difference is zero, the data is not included in the ranking and is deducted from the N value
• working out the T value - which is the sum of the less frequent sign (the less frequent sign is minus )
• work out the calculated and critical value

if the calculated value of T is more than the critical value of T, the result is not significant - accept null hypothesis
