1571-TREASON ACT, anyone who left country for more than 6 months had their land confiscated to prevent catholics going abroad to train as missionaries
1581-converting people to Catholicism was treason
1585-pursuivants were employed to catch priests
1593-large gatherings of catholic’s was illegal
