Montgomery boycott background
◍major inequality despite Jim crow -was ‘separate but not equal’ exept busses Montogomery
◍Alabama bus company- only employed white drivers-black ppl at the back and were obliged to give up their seat
◍70% montogmery bus users were Black + often abused by bus drivers

The Montgomery bus boycott
◍1 Dec 1955-Rosa parks(NAACP) borded bus after work but refused to give up her seat to a white passenger
◍Parks was arrested
◍Edgar Daniel Nixon paid her bail
◍Parks due in court 5 Dec
◍Nixon wanted to use her case to fight segregation: contacted Rev ralph +MLK
◍ On the 5th, 40,000 black ppl boycotted public buses-boycott lasted 381 days
◍In 1956 segregation on public transport was deemed unconstitutional
