America had loaned money to Germany which had led to economic growth.
After:
The loans were withdrawn. Without the loans, Germany couldn’t pay reparations

There seemed to be no need to overthrow democracy as it was working
After:
The Nazis plan to abolish the TOV seemed like a good plan to solve Germany’s problems and Hitlers ideas of rearmerment and road building could improve the economy

The Weimar parties co-operated with each other to provide a stable government and Streseman was a strong leader who made effective decisions
After: Streseman died and the Weimar politicians were unable to agree to policies that would solve Germanys problems. Hitler could be the strong and decisive leader that Germany needed

The reichstag was set on fire. Marcus van der lubbe was accused and people believed that it was part of a communist plot.

The decree for the protection of the the people and the state allowed Hitler to restrict free speech, restrict the other parties to hold meetings and allowed imprisonment without trial.
A nazi was put in charge of the police which the Nazis used to their advantage.
Hitler could now use the news and radio for propoganda
Since the communists were blamed some people lost support for them.

The army had the support of businesses and conservatives that supplied Hitler with money

What happened on the night of the long knives

A

On 29th June 1934
Hitler called a meeting of all the SA meetings for the next day. The next day Hitler flew to Munich and arrested Rohm at gunpoint. Then he started the arrest and murder of all the SA leaders. Rohm was killed on 1 July 1934. Over a hundred SA leaders and important non Nazis were killed.
