Define health.

Define disease.
Disease can be defined as the malfunctioning of the body organs due to environmental factors or due to infective agents or genetic factors etc.
The term literally means “disturbed ease “or being uncomfortable.
List the conditions essential for good health?
- Good physical environment ( e.g.:- health is at risk in a cyclone)
- Good social environment ( e.g.:- public cleanliness)
- Good economic condition and job (food have to be earned from money)
- Social equality and harmony
List two major conditions essential for being free of disease?
- Free from infectious microbes
* Proper food necessary for functioning of cells
Define symptoms of disease?
• Symptoms of disease are things we feel as being wrong.eg; headache, cough, loose motion. These indicate that there may be a disease but don’t indicate what disease is. When there is a disease, either the functioning of one or more body system will change. These changes give rise to symptoms
How do we identify a disease?
- When there is a disease, either the functioning of one or more body system will change.
- These changes give rise to symptoms and signs of disease like headache, fever, cough, loose motion etc.
- On the basis of symptoms and related signs, physicians indicate the particular disease.
- Further to pinpoint a disease lab tests are done
Infection by microorganisms like
like bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoan and worms. (e.g.; hepatitis, cholera, typhoid, HIV )
Malfunctioning of body organs eg..
( e.g.; malfunctioning of pancreas cause diabetes)
Deficiency of nutrients eg…
e.g.; lack of vitamin D cause rickets, lack of vitamin B cause beriberi
Genetic disorder eg…
e.g.; those present from birth, e.g.:-haemophilia
Other environmental factors like
like UV rays, chemical pollutants, allergens etc.
Infectious diseases
These are communicable diseases and are transferred from a patient to healthy person
These diseases are caused due to infection by pathogens
These diseases are a matter of concern to the society.
Tuberculosis, typhoid, malaria
non infectious diseases
These are non-communicable diseases and are not transferred from a patient to healthy person
These are caused by nutritional deficiency
Concerned only with the individual
Diabetes, marasmus ,rickets, scurvy
What is Peptic ulcer? What does it cause?
- It is a small curved bacteria present in the lower part of stomach of infected person.
- It cause acidity related pain lesions and bleeding in the stomach. Other symptoms like vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation etc
Which diseases are caused due to infection by pathogens ?
Infectious diseases
Which diseases are caused by nutritional deficiency ?
Non infectious diseases
