Why do a User Research? Flashcards
User Research is often divided into two methods. What are the two methods?
- Quantitative
2. Qualitative
What is Quantitative Research?
A user research method that seeks to measure user behavior in a way that can be quantified and used for statistical analysis.
What is Qualitative Research?
A user research method that are often more exploratory and seek to get an in-depth understanding of the experiences and everyday lives of individual users or user groups.
What is “Déformation Professionellé”?
The tendency of seeing things from the point of view of one’s profession, and not stepping back to catch the reality of what’s going on from a fresh, generalist angle.
Why is UX often the first resource to become cut when a company’s resources become scarce?
It’s not immediately felt. It’s intangible, so they often overlook it’s value more easily.
If you make cuts in software development, you can immediately see that the consequences involve cutting back on features or having buggy software, however, if you make cuts in UX, you don’t experience the consequences UNTIL..
your product reaches your users.
You have just started working on the UX design for a webshop. When would be a good time to start usability testing?
Once you are able to sketch your first ideas. The sooner the better.
You are having a hard time getting your management to provide you with the resources you need for getting your UX design right. What type of user research could help you show the value of good design?
User research to show the return on investment of your design efforts.
What are the three reasons you might conduct a user research?
- To ensure that your designs are truly relevant.
- To ensure that your designs are easy and pleasurable to use.
- To understand the ROI of your UX design.
What is User-Centered Design?
A work process that places the user at the center of the development process.
• It’s an iterative process of Research –> Define –> Develop/Design –> Evaluate —-> Release
In what phases do you conduct a research to ensure that your designs are truly relevant?
The beginning of the ideation/concept development phase, once again before development, and after the release of the product.
In what phases do you conduct a research to ensure that your design is pleasant and easy to use?
Start in the early phases of the development phase and continue to iterate.
In what phases do you conduct a research to understand the return on investment of your user experience?
After the release of the app.
