What is a natural number
whole number that are greater than or equal to1 e.g. 1234
What are whole numbers
the counting numbers, positive number including 0 e.g. 01234
What is expanded form -
a number written as the sum of its digits
What is approximation -
a rough value that is not exact
What is sum
the result of addition
What is difference
the result of multiplication
What is inverse operation
two mathematical operations that have an opposite effect ex. addition an subtraction
What is identity element
the number that, when added or multiplied by another number, doesn’t change the answer
What is long multiplication
a method of multiplying large numbers by writing them out in columns
What is long division
a method of dividing numbers that are too big to divide using short division
What is a factor
a number that divides exactly into a whole number with no remainder
What is prime numbers
numbers that have only two factors: the number itself and 1
What is composite numbers
numbers with more than two factors
What does highest common factor (HCF) means?
the highest factor that is common to two or more numbers
What is multiple
the product of two natural numbers
What is lowest common multiple (LCM)
the lowest multiple that is common to two or more numbers
What is ratio
a comparison of two or more quantities of the same type
What is rate
comparison of two different types of measurements
What is VAT
short for value-added tax, this is tax that is included in the price of goods in a shop
What is hire purchase
a method of buying goods by making instalments (payments) over time
What is profit
the difference between the selling price price and the cost price of an item
What is exchange rate
how much it costs to exchange the currency of one country for the currency of another
