Whole Number Operations Unit 1 Flashcards
Multiply
The process of calculating the produce of two or more numbers.
Divide
Mathematical operation which involves the sharing of an amount into equal-sized groups.
Factor
A number that divides another number or expression evenly, with no remainder. EX: 12/6=2
Product
The result or answer to a multiplication problem.
Array
a display of data to find the product of a multiplication problem.
Partial Product
A product of two numbers when we break the numbers into parts, multiply the parts separately, and then add them together.
Area Model
A rectangular diagram used to solve multiplication or division problems.
Dividend
The number that is being divided.
Divisor
The number that you are dividing by. EX 15/3=5 3 is the divisor.
Quotient
The answer to a division problem.
Remainder
The number that is left over in a division problem. It is always less than the divisor.
Partial Quotien
A method used to solve large division problems.
Expanded Form
A way to express a number as the sum of the place values of its digits. EX: 500+40+3=543
Algorithm
Steps used to solve a math problem. (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.)
Unit Form
The value of the number each digit holds. EX: 617 Unit forms - 6 hundreds, 1 ten, and 7 ones.
