Q

Seatback: difference between high back and low back

A
High back:
High back=low mobility (trade off)
Additional support throughout the spine
Low back:
Low back=active individuals
UE clearance to access wheels

9
Q

What is good about full length armrests

A

Larger surface for pushups and transfers

Prevents getting closer to surface

Q

What is good about height adjustable armrests?

A
  • good for children bc they’re growing

- useful for people who need more or less support throughout the day

Q

If the axle is posterior…

A

Moves COM forward which is bad for mobility

But it decreases tipping risk

12
Q

If the axle is anterior…

A

Moves COM backward which is good because it decreases stress on joints and muscles and is easier to turn and propel. But there’s increased tipping risk.

13
Q

One patient that would benefit from having axle placed farther back

A

Amputees so they don’t tip. Their center of mass is altered because they don’t have those body parts (legs)

15
Q

What are the two types of wheels and what is the difference?

A

Spoke and Mag
Spoke is more shock absorbing, lighter, but increased maintenance.
Mag is less shock absorbing, heavier, but no maintenance is needed.

16
Q

Different types of tires?

A

Solid vs pneumatic
Solid: decreased traction on uneven surfaces, less shock absorption, no maintenance
Pneumatic: increased traction/resistance, more shock absorption. (Risk of flat tire)

17
Q

Difference bw large and small castors

A

Large- greater turning radius, harder to move, smoother ride

Smaller- smaller turning radius, easier to move, less smooth ride

18
Q

What do you need to consider for brakes?

A
  • hand function
  • balance
  • reach
  • transfer technique
  • safety
19
Q

What are the 3 phases of propulsion cycle?

A

Push phase
Recovery phase
Transition

20
Q

Push phase

A
  • 25 to 35% of cycle
  • region of handrim-contact
  • fore phase, mid phase, and aft phase
  • aft phase has greatest force generation
21
Q

Recovery phase

A

-65 to 75% of propulsion
