Whats! Flashcards
Autorotation
A manoeuvre that uses airflow from beneath the disc to turn the disc without an engine
Delta-3
Reduces AOA when the blade flaps up to reduce how much the blade flaps
Stability
The ability of anything to return to it’s original position after it as been disturbed
Tail Rotor Roll
The tendency of the skid opposite to the tail rotor thrust to hang low
Rigid rotor head
A rotor system that allows the individual blades to feather only
Ground resonance
A damaging oscillation an inbalance between the rotor head and the skids that are in contact with the ground
Dynamic rollover
When the helicopter is forced to toll over due to motion around a skid when acting as a pivot point
Inflow Roll
The disc rolling to the advancing side in accelerating or decelerating flight at low speed
Translation lift
An aerodynamic effect where induced flow being blown away in accelerating flight that gives more lift for the same pitch
Recirculation
The effect when downwash re-enters the disc
Retreating blade stall
A stall caused by an excessively large AOA due to excessive flapping down when to retreating blade speed is low due to excessive air speed
Reverse flow
Due to aircraft airspeed overtaking the blade speed
Washout
Creates equal lift distribution across the blade by decreasing pitch at the tip
