The reformation in England placed the English people in difficult religious and political circumstances that required them to behave in ways that were directly against their conscience leaving them no choice but to flee in order to find religious freedom.
What is the difference between Puritans, Puritan Separatists, Quakers, and Catholics?
● Puritans- wanted to purify the church of England
● Puritan Separatists- also wanted to purify the church of England but they separated themselves from the Church of England
● Quakers- Were pacifists(a person who believes that war and violence are unjustifiable.) and believed one could have a direct experience of christ without any ordained clergy. Unlike the Puritans, the Quakers didn’t want to fight.
● Catholics-Their legions are to the pope and not to the King

Federalists want a strong central/federal government whereas anti-federalists believe there should be more power invested in the states and the people.

Had to do with their concerns over whether or not they were the elective god or whether they were doomed to hell. They felt that if they were prosperous then they must be one of the elected few. Long story short- their prevailing legacy is their work ethic. The idea is that everyone should work hard and be prosperous.
What is the origin of Utopian thought?
Sir Thomas Moore wrote a book called Utopia about a perfect physical existence on Earth. Moore originally wrote utopia simply for amusement.
Why did Utopian societies fail?
They had very strict rules about celibacy so they were never able to procreate and the population diminished.
