Q

What was another consequence in the Fort Laramie Treaty?

A

The start of organised transport
links across the plains caused
disruption to the treaty. In 1858
John Butterfield’s overland mail
coaches began to run to
California. Surveyors of the land
looking for the best route – this
disrupted the Plains Indian’s
hunting land.

Q

Explain two consequences of the Fort
Laramie Treaty (1851)

A

One consequence of the Fort Laramie Treaty was the loss of plains Indians independence. For example when the permanent Indian frontier was established because it allowed whites to enter the Indian territory.

Another consequence was the white settlement of the Great Plains. This can be demonstrated when settlers moved into the area, they disrupted Native Americans way of life and took away important resources like buffalo.
