Why were the goods rationed?
Consumer. goods were expensive, no imports from the USA, feared the WW1 experience
What was bombed?
First they tried to bomb industrial areas, then in 1942 they bombed cities with fire bombs
How many cities and houses were bombed and what was the effect on the people?
61 cities and 3.5 minion houses were destroyed, leaving 7.5 million people homeless. 300,000-400,000 were killed and 800,000 were wounded.
Did the German economy get weakended by the bombing?
No, the economy did not stop growing until 1944.
How was the bombing perceived by the population?
It got mixed reviews by the population, some might find it awful and that they were behaving like the Nazi’s, other were thinking it was effective and good.
Where did the French bordering people flee too?
They fled to Germany, but when the war was not immediate, they returned.
Where their other refugees?
Yes, from the bombing’s and people from Poland that were escaping the brutality of the Russians, who were coming.
Who was employed during the war?
Females entered the workplace, because the men were. fighting in the war which caused a lack in labour. So we’re prisoners.
How many people became refugees because of the lack of employment?
About 8 million, so did 11 million Germans living on the eastern boarder.
What were the youth uprising groups called?
Edelweiss pirates, White rose, Jazz clubs
What did the Edelweiss pirates do?
Worked against Nazi propaganda, attacked Hitler Youth members and killed the leader of there Gestappo and sang anti Nazi songs
What were the consequences for the Edelweiss pirates?
12 were hanged and 700 were arrested.
What was did the white rose do?
They made anti Nazi leaflets
What happened to them and who was involved?
It was the Scholl siblings and in Munich the janitor ratted them out and they were guillotined.
