What was the Asiento?

A

The english were given a monopoly to supply slaves to the spanish colony in 1713.
British could transport 4800 slaves a year but had to pay 7 million to do so.
South sea company- set up to run the asiento.
Short term- people brought lots of share in company.

A

Poor colonists- price if land went up because of huge profit labourers struggled to buy it. Some found it difficult to find a job. Competition from slaves often formed militia to hunt for runaways

A

The stone rebellion was in 1739

Why did the stone rebellion happen?

A

Because fever had struck and many died. By September when the rice harvest was at its height, the slaves who had survived were struggling to cope. This was when they chose to revolt due to a couple of reasons.
