  • Frequent references to light in contrast to the night/darkness of inevitable separation. Duffy uses light to suggest a positive/warm/optimistic liaison, rather than dwelling on darkness of separation the lovers make the most of their time together and are optimistic about further shown my light - light at the end of the tunnel.
  • “Now” is framed by caesura (deliberately used punctuation in the middle of a sentence), which is simple, like the lovers’ situation - strong sense of being complete, nothing more is needed. Celebrates a moment, rather than dwelling on the future or the past, celebrating that “hour” mentioned in the title.
