2) It did not bring about the end of Relgious Toleration

A

Toleration Act = Creation of more comprehensive Church of England had been erected in 1660s.
1689 Comprehension Bill was to tempt majority of Protestant dissenters to join CoE - Bill failed to become law - Anglicans not prepared cooperate with dissenters.

Triumph of Presbyterians in Scotland and the abolition of episcopacy = Rank-and-file clergy vigorously opposed the Bill

Bill’s failure meant that although dissenters could legally worship freedom - humiliatingly doors of their meeting houses to remain open during their religious services - Test Acts were left unrepealed.

dissenter-meeting houses had to be registered with a bishop

Test-Acts enforcing acceptance of the Anglican sacraments on all office-holders were maintained.

Anglican intolerance of Protestant dissent that was temporarily suspended in the face of the common Catholic enemy in the reign of James II, grew rapidly in intensityin the 1690s and early 1700s.
