What is abnormal psychology and how can you identify normality from abnormality?

Answer 1

Abnormal psychology is the scientific study of abnormal behaviours and/or psychological disorders (e.g., personality disorders)
For behaviour to be considered abnormal it must satisfy three components:
1. Deviant – socially unacceptable & statistically rare
2. Distress – cause harm to self
3. Dysfunction – causes difficulty/inability for a person to meet requirements of everyday life.
Neither classification on its own is sufficient/necessary to be defined as abnormality
