What is Force and type of Forces Flashcards
Learn about force and types of forces
What is force? Any example
Force is a physical quantity that is push and a pull.
For example- Hitting a ball with bat or pressing a dough.
What are some properties of force?
1) Force is always applied in a direction.
2) It comes into play when there is an interaction between two bodies.
3) Force is a vector quantity.
Name different types of forces.
There are two type forces:—
Contact Force
•Frictional Force
•Muscular Force
Non contact forces
•Magnetic Force
•Electrostatic Force
•Gravitational Force
There some more forces-
Normal Force
Applied Force
Tension Force
Important
Due to friction, velocity of a body gets reducced, which lead to production of acceleration.
About Gravitational force and formula.
Gravitational force is the force exerted between two bodies not in contact like solar system is maintained by sun’s gravitational pull.
It was found by Issac Newton.
To calculate gravity,
F=G×M×m/R²
G is Gravitational constant,
G=6.67×10-¹¹ Nm²kg-²
M and m are masses of objects and,
R is the distance between them
Note: g is acceleration due to gravity,
Where g=9.8 m/s²
What is Normal Force?
The normal force is the force, which exerted upon an object in conatct with another stable object.
- The force acting vertically upward and downward is mgcosθ.
- The force acting forward horzontally is mgsinθ.
What is friction and different types of friction?
Friction is the opposing force that acts in opposite direction and stops it.
There are two types of friction:–
•Static Friction
•Kinetic Friction
Kinetic Friction is of three types
—Sliding friction
—Rolling friction
—Fluid friction
About static friction.
Force applied at instant to make an object in motion.
About kinetic friction.
Friction acting between two moving surfaces.
Force=Coefficient of friction × Normal force
About electrostatic force.
Force acting between two charged bodies.
Effects of force.
1) It can stop moving objects.
2) It can move stationary objects.
3) It can change magnitude and direction of the object.
4) It can change shape and size of object.
Units of Force
1 dyne= 10-⁶N
1 kgf or 1 kp= 9.80665N=1 metric slug
1lbf= 32.174 poundals=1 slug
1 kgf=2.2046 lbf
Laws of motion.(By newton)
- 1st law states that, an object in mostion or at rest will remain in motion or at rest until it is compelled and external unbalance force.
- 2nd law states that, the rate of change in momentum is directly proportional to force actin on it.
- 3rd law, To each and every action there is equal and opposite reaction.
What is the Law of conservation of momentum?
Total momentum before and after collision is equal.
What is inertia?
Inertia is the property of object due to which it opposes the state of motion.
