Crush syndrome
A
Limb compression and destruction of muscle lead to release toxic muscle cells such as acid myoheamatin that enter the circulation and block the kidney and cause renal failure and death

Clinical picture
A
Hyperkalemia / Acidosis
Renal failure / Ventricular fibrillation
DIC
Respiratory depression / Hypertension
Compartment syndrome

How to treat it?
A
1st rule = Limb crushed severely(>6hrs)
•the amputation done :
•Above the compression or crushed injury
•Before compression is released
Otherwise if limb still viable we can excise the dead tissue and vigorous intravenous fluid
