What is a wave? Flashcards
What is a wave?
A wave is a transfer of energy from one place to another.
What is caused to create a wave?
What does this create?
Do the individual atoms move away or stay close to the source and state why.
They are caused by vibrations.
It creates a ‘ripple’ effect through the particles between the source and the end point.
The individual atoms do not move further away from the source, they simply pass the energy on to the next atom.
What does frequency mean and what is it’s measurement?
The number of waves that pass a point each second.
It is measured in ‘Hz’ - Hertz.
What does time period mean and what is it’s measurement?
The amount of time it takes for one wave to pass.
It is measured in ‘s’- seconds.
What is the formula for frequency and time period?
F = 1/T
F = Frequency T = Time period
