What Happens To The Food After The Stomach Flashcards
What are lipids?
Fats and oils.
What does the liver produce and what does it do?
The liver produces Bile, which breaks large globes of lipids ito small globules.
What are immisible liquids?
Liguids that do not mix together (ex. Oil and Vinegar).
What is an emulsifier?
A substance that combines two immisible liquids.
- Oil and Water ➡️ soap
- Backed good ➡️ lecithin
- Chyme ➡️ bile
What is emulsion?
Two immicible liquid and an emmulsifier.
What happens when the chyme enters the first part of the small intestine?
The bile is squirted on the chyme and emulsifies the lipids within the chyme.
Where is the bile tranfered and stored?
The gall blatter.
What are gall stones?
Chrystals of bile which can block the bile duct. Can be shattered with sound at the right frequency.
What happens to the food after the stomach?
As food leaves the stomach in a pureed form, it is called chyme. It goes to the first part of the small intestine through the gastro intestinal valve.
What is the pancreas?
It is a gland which produces adigestive juice called pancreatic juice.
Where is the pancreas located?
The pancreas is located under the stomach. It has the pncreatic duct which is pluged into the same place as the bile duct (first part of the small intestine).
What does the pancreatic juice contain?
Pancreatic juice is 97% H2O and 3% enzymes.
What are the three enzymes in pancreatic juice?
1) Pancreatic amylase - continues carbohydrates chemical digestion.
2) Pancreatic lipase - starts chemical digestion of lipids.
3) Pancreatic trypsin - continues chem. digestion of protein.
