JESUS: SAVIOR OF MANKIND
A
The name of Jesus came from the Hebrew “Yeshua” which means “God saves.” It signifies his identity and mission: to save people from sin.

- His sonship is not by adoption, but through relationship. During his baptism, a voice was heard from heaven which says “This is my beloved son, listen to him
- He also want his followers to recognize his father as their father too

- Islam came from the arabic “slm” which means “peace and submission.
- Muslims believe in only one God, and they call God as “Allah”.
- Islam was founded by the Prophet Muhammad.

- He is revered by Muslims as the “Prophet before Muhammad.”
- “Isa-al-Masih” - JESUS THE MESSIAH
- For Muslims, Jesus was not crucified but simply taken up to heaven.
- Also Jesus is not regarded as God but equivalent only to Prophet Muhammad.

- He was rejected by the Jews for he was not able to defeat Rome and bring the kingdom of God, contrary to what Christians believe.
- Jesus is honored as a holy rabbi by many contemporary jews

- Clergy members of Judaism
- Function: teach the scriptures (Torah) and Jewish traditions.
- Jesus is considered as “rabbi” because of his ministry of teaching, even though he didn’t became a part of the official leaders in the Jewish temple.

JESUS: THE LAMB OF GOD

- Lamb (Sheep)- main animal used by Israelites as sacrifice.
- Old Testament- the death of Jesus is prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 53:7)
- New Testament- John the Baptist recognized him as the “Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.” (John 1:29)
- Jesus was the LAMB who saved us from death. By his precious blood, we are all redeemed.

JESUS: THE NEW ADAM

- Adam- became disobedient and caused the fall of man (sin and death).
- Jesus- obedient to the father which brought salvation and life.
- Jesus as the New Adam destroyed the effects of Adam’s disobedience

- “SON OF DAVID”- a messianic title that Jesus never denied or displeased.
- JESUS came from the lineage of King - David, as we can read on his genealogy from the gospel of St. Matthew

JESUS: THE BREAD OF LIFE

- When Jesus said “For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world (John 6:33)” JESUS LITERALLY MEAN IT.
- At last supper, he said to his friends, “This is my BODY that is for you. Do this in memory of me.” (1 Corinthians 11:24) JESUS LITERALLY MEAN IT.
- The Eucharist is his gift for us. It is his real presence in the Mass. The bread we receive in the mass is not a symbol but JESUS himself, that gives us life eternal.

- ANNUNCIATION- the angel visited Mary to bring the good news.
- NATIVITY- the day when Jesus our savior was born in Bethlehem

- Refers to service rendered by Jesus for the people: teaching, healing and miracles.
- BAPTISM IN JORDAN- the day Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.
- MARRIAGE AT CANA- The day when Jesus performed his 1st miracle.
- TEMPTATION OF JESUS- the devil tempted Jesus, and our Lord never gave in.
- TRANSFIGURATION- Jesus gave his disciples a glimpse of his divinity.
- PALM SUNDAY- Jesus entered Jerusalem as humble servant ready for sacrifice.
- LAST SUPPER- Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist.
