personification, adjectives, nouns, use of adjectives, semantic fields, metaphors - similes, complex, simple, short, long sentences - sentence moods and the senses

reiterations, what does the writer zoom in/out on, balance of dialogue, arresting openings e.g. “Suddenly he turned the corner, is it cyclical? how does the focus change from the start to the end?

What's it made of? - patterns in the text Who is here? - what characters? Where am I? - location/setting What time is it? - how is time ordered? Whose view? - perspective
