What are the steps of mitosis in order and what happens? Flashcards
1
Q
1st stage of Mitosis
A
Prophase– Chromatin condenses into chromosomes, the nuclear envelope breaks down, and spindle fibers start to form.
2
Q
2nd stage of mitosis
A
Metaphase – Chromosomes line up in the center of the cell, and spindle fibers attach to their centromeres.
3
Q
3rd stage of mitosis
A
Anaphase – Sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite sides of the cell by spindle fibers.
4
Q
4th stage of mitosis
A
Telophase – Chromosomes uncoil, two new nuclear envelopes form, and the cell begins to split.
5
Q
5th stage of mitosis
A
Cytokinesis – The cytoplasm divides, creating two identical daughter cells.
