What are the sources of energy we use? Flashcards
What do we use?
Fossil fuels
Solar energy
Hydroelectric energy
Wind energy
Geothermal energy
Biofuels
Nuclear energy
What is solar energy?
Mainly comes from solar panels, capture sunlight and convert it to electrical energy
light energy ——> electrical energy
What is hydroelectric energy?
Mainly produced by hydroelectric stations where electrical energy is created by turbines when moving water pours onto them
GPE—>KE—–>KE—->ELE
(dam) (water) (turbine) (generator)
Wind energy
Mainly produced by wind turbines that convert energy from the wind into electrical energy
kinetic energy—-> kinetic energy—-> electrical energy
Geothermal energy
Mainly produced by geothermal powerplants, electrical energy is produced from the earths core
heat energy–> kinetic energy —> kinetic energy —–> electrical energy
Biofuels
made from animal waste or plant materials that cannot be eaten by humans
CPE —> heat energy —-> kinetic energy
Nuclear energy
Energy harnessed from the nucleus of an atom
nuclear energy—>heat energy—->kinetic energy—> electrical energy
