What are the lower-level structures of the brain, and what are their roles in behavior and mental processes. Flashcards
locate and describe the functions of the hindbrain and the midbrain
hindbrain-back of the head
all automatic behaviors and survival are controlled and influenced by parts of the hindbrain. contains- pons, cerebellum, medulla
midbrain-middle of head. helps us orient eye and body movements to visual and auditory stimuli, and works with pons.
reticular formation
runs through the hindbrain and midbrain helps controls information.
locate and describe the functions for the thalamus, hypothalamus, and limbic system.
thalamus -located in the forebrain, relays sensory messages to cortex.
hypothalamus- located in the forebrain, regulates, drives, hunger, thrust.
limbic system- located in the forebrain, collection of structures involved in emotions, drives and memory
