a three year redevelopment programme for houses, schools, medical services, infrastructure and agriculture was funded by the UK, 1998 people were granted full residency rights in the UK allowing them to migrate. 2005 many people had moved back but the south remained an exclusion zone. vegetation slowly regrowing , land will be used for crops again, rebuilding tourism with the volcano itself as an attraction. UK financial aid since 1995 has exceeded £420 million.
