Q

Explain why there is reduced productivity?

A
  • when soil is eroded, the most fertile topsoil is lost
  • remaining soils may be less fertile so plant growth may be reduced
  • erosion may leave shallower soil ( root penetration is more difficult )

Q

Explain why there is sedimentation in rivers and reserviors?

A
  • deposited if water slows down and has less kinetic energy

- this reduces its flow capacity ( river is more likely to overflow and cause flooding following heavy rain )
