What is Termination of patient care before the patient has been delivered to an equal or higher level of care?
Abandonment
Occurs when the normal compensatory mechanisms to heat loss are overwhelmed by exposure, leading to an unintentional drop in body temperature
Accidental hypothermia
Refers to sudden, severe abdominal pain and can represent a wide spectrum of conditions ranging f rom benign to surgical emergencies
Acute Abdomen
A condition characterized by side effects of low oxygen after rapid ascent to high altitude, including headache, lethargy, nausea, vomiting, and lack of appetite
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)
A physiological response that occurs when cold blood in the extremities and peripheries moves back to the core further dropping the body’s core temperature
Afterdrop
An abnormal immune system response to allergens
Allergies
A type of vasogenic shock resulting f rom exposure to an allergen, which causes severe vasodilation resulting in dangerously low blood pressure
Anaphylactic shock
A life threatening allergic reaction
Anaphylaxis
Pain due to a temporary and inadequate blood flow to the heart muscle
Angina Pectoris
A class of psychiatric disorders consisting of persistent, prolonged feelings of worry or fear strong enough to interfere with daily life
Anxiety disorder:
The largest artery in the body that leaves the left ventricle of the heart and carries oxygenated blood to the capillaries

A serious condition caused by acute inflammation of the appendix; requires immediate surgical intervention
Appendicitis
A reactive airway disease where the airway narrows, swells, and produces extra mucus, causing bronchoconstriction and difficulty breathing
