Wet World Flashcards
What are the 4 stages of the water cycle?
Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, collection
Evaporation?
Evaporation - the sun heats water liquid which turns into gas called water vapour
Condensation?
Condensation - the water vapour cools in the sky and turns back into water liquid
Precipitation?
Precipitation - the water droplets become bigger and heavier and fall from the sky as rain or snow
Collection?
Collection - when water hits the land, some of it flows into rivers
Difference between weather and climate
The difference: is a measure of time.
Weather is the condition of the atmosphere over a short period of time in a place.
Climate is how the atmosphere behaves over a longer period of time.
Causes of flooding
Heavy rain Overflowing rivers Broken dams Melting snow and ice Strong winds lead to high tides
Water surplus areas
Where supply exceeds demand and these are known as water surplus areas.
There is excess (too much) water available.
Eg. If some areas experience high levels of rainfall but have a low population density (a measurement of population by unit area)
