A small state called Mail took over. They mainly had farmers in the empire and maintained by the Trans-Saharan trade.

The trading empire in West Africa which became important for trade routes all over the world.
Songhai Empire
A state from when mail broke apart ruled by Sunni Ali. He took control of Timbuktu and used the Nile to expand his territory. They control of salt and gold.
Berber
descendants of the pre-Arab inhabitants of North Africa.
Mansa Musa
He was a Muslim emperor of Mail. He used his wealth to help support Muslim artist/ scholars. He also spent it on trying to centers of culture.
Ibn Battutan
A young Arab lawyer from Morocco who set out to see the Muslim world.
Trans Saharan Caravan Trade
Berber would take camel to trade in the desert then the started to create caravans for trading

A city that emerged as the largest trading center in West Africa. Making stuff such as copper goods, rich, fish, cattle, and gold, jewelry
